50 women of Jagti Township trained in fruit, vegetable processing

JAMMU, AUGUST 17: A group of fifty women including the members of a Women Self Help Group of Jagti Township were imparted one month training by the Department of Horticulture in fruit and vegetable preservation to enable them to diversify their income generating activities.

The training was conducted by Chief Canning & Processing Instructor Jammu Vikas Anand.

On completion of the training course, the women trainees were presented certificates by Joint Director Horticulture Jammu, C. L Sharma here at a simple function held today.

The members of the self help group namely, ATHROOT attended the training programme in which they were trained in the latest techniques of fruit and vegetable preservation. The department also facilitated the SHG, (ATHROOT) in getting the FSSAI licence, which is an achievement.

Addressing the gathering of women entrepreneurs, the Joint Director Horticulture   advised them to establish individual processing units for fruit processing/ fruit drying/ spices preparation etc. for which the Department of Horticulture is providing 50-60 percent subsidy. He informed that the women farmers can also form Farmers Club/ FPOs / Self Help Groups and establish processing units on community level as an entrepreneurship.

The Chief Canning & Processing Instructor Jammu explained in detail different departmental schemes to the budding entrepreneurs for establishment of fruit and vegetable preservation units as well as dry fruit processing units with the assistance of the department. He appreciated the trainees for taking keen interest in the training programme.

Manager cum Chemist, Anil Chibber impressed upon trainees to take the benefit of training programmes and establish the fruit and vegetable processing units for enhancing their income.

Women trainees thanked the Department of Horticulture for facilitating them in the issuance of Food License (FSSAI Certification) and requested for support in marketing of the processed products.
