The 6th Veterans Day was celebrated at Chhamkot by Shakti Vijay Brigade and civilians of Karnah Tehsil along with veterans on 14th January.
The day has special significance in the history of Indian Army as it was this day in 1953 when the first Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army, General K M Cariappa, OBE (later on Field Marshal) retired after a long and distinguished career. Veteran meets are organized across the nation to honour the selfless sacrifices of the veterans in service of the nation.
Brigadier Satya Priya Consul, officers and men of Shakti Vijay Brigade paid their heartfelt respect to the veterans of Karnah emphasizing their steadfast devotion and sacrifices in line of duty and their unparalleled contributions towards nation building. The event included an entertainment program for the Veterans followed by a felicitation ceremony of Veer Naris and a few Veterans who have made invaluable contributions towards management of COVID in Karnah Tehsil.
An Army medical team was also present to tend to any medical needs of the Veterans. CSD facilities were also catered for the veterans at the venue. The youths of Karnah under the banner of youth society namely “Save Youth, Save Future” turned up in great numbers for the event to show their gratitude to the Veterans for their service to the nation.
Four Veer Naris and two hundred Veterans attended the event including seven gallantry award winners.
It was also an occasion for the Veterans to rekindle old associations and meet their brothers in arms, exchanging stories from their shared past. The camaraderie and bonhomie on display made it evident why India’s Armed Forces are at the fore front of nation building. Lunch was organized for all on the occasion.
