Starts, 21 December to January 29 every year, has 3 main parts, 10-day long “CHILLAI KALAN”, 20-day long “CHILLAI KHRUD” and 10-day-long “CHILLAI BACHHA”

Srinagar, 21 Dec (KB): As valley reels under cold wave, 40-day long period of harsh winter, “The Chillai Kalan” begins on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Every year Chillai Kalan starts on 21 december, and stays with us for 40 long days, Chillai Kalan mainly has 3 parts, “The Chillai Kalan”, which starts on 21 december and ends on January 29. The Chillai Kalan is followed by another, 20-day part know as “Chillai Khurd”, and the “Chillai Khurd”, is followed by another 10 days long “Chillai Bachha”.

 

As per Kashmr Bulletin–(KB), Director of Meteorological Department (MET), Sonam Lotus told that, currently, weather is fair to partly cloudy in both UT’s and same weather is likely to continue till tomorrow.

 

“Due to a feeble Western Disturbance, weather is most likely to remain generally cloudy in both UT’s with chances of light snowfall at scattered places of Kashmir, over higher reaches only ”, he said.

 

A snow spell of greater intensity is most likely during 26, evening to 28, forenoon with main activity on 27th. –(Kashmr Bulletin–KB)
