Srinagar, Dec 20 : In a bizarre state, only three districts of Jammu and Kashmir have been enjoying the benefits of centrally sponsored National Family Benefit Scheme (NHFS), reveals the figures of Ministry of Rural Development (MRD).

According to the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) of MRD, there are a total of 374 beneficiaries from Jammu and Kashmir who have registered for the scheme.

The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has learnt that the three districts wherein the beneficiaries have applied to enjoy the perks of the scheme includes two districts of Kashmir and one of Jammu region respectively.

According to the official figures, the highest number of beneficiaries has been recorded from the frontier district Kupwara wherein at least 356 individuals have registered for the NHFS scheme.

Similarly, the Kathua of Jammu region has a total of 16 beneficiaries followed by south Kashmir’s Kulgam district with only two beneficiaries.

The figures available on NSAP website reveal that out of total number of beneficiaries Aadhar has been verified with a bank of only 68 beneficiaries.

A month back, KNO reported that under National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) families living Below Poverty Line (BPL) in Kashmir region were yet to provide the funds to more than 5600 families who have lost their primary bread-earner.

In Kashmir division at least 5684 cases of the scheme were pending for the people of 18-59 years whose primary bread earner died due to accident or natural cause.

The figures reveal that till March-2020, the department of social welfare Kashmir has covered 9175 cases while the net pendency was 5540—(KNO)
