Amar Singh College, Srinagar observes World Arabic Language Day.

To observe and celebrate the World Arabic Language Day, Department of Arabic, Amar Singh College Srinagar organized a one day seminar on “Arabic language_ A Bridge Between Civilizations” on 18th of December 2021. Principal Amar Singh College, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, Registrar Cluster University Srinagar Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Mir and Dean, Humanities & Liberal Arts Cluster University Srinagar, Dr. Deeba Sarmad and Prof. A.R. Var were present at the occasion. Dr. SallahUd din Tak, Department of Arabic, University of Kashmir and Dr. Javid Ahmad Paul HoD Arabic GCW Pulwama, were the resource persons of the seminar. The seminar was attended by the faculty and the students of the college.

 

At the outset of the seminar, Principal of the college, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather formally welcomed the resource persons, faculty and the students of the college. In his welcome address he threw light on the historical background, importance and scope of Arabic language.

 

He congratulated the organizers for organizing the seminar and encouraged to conduct such seminars in future also.
Dr. Zahida Akhter, Assistant Prof. Department of Arabic, presented a brief introduction of the seminar. While highlighting the main objectives of the seminar She said the purpose of observing this day is to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity across the world.

 

Dean, Humanities & Liberal Arts Cluster University Srinagar, Dr. Deeba Sarmad, in her keynote address, talked about the significance of Arabic language in Art, Philosophy, Literature, Science etc. She also highlighted the contribution of Arabic language in Greek and Roman literature. She also proposed to start a PG Course in Arabic in the Amar Singh College and assured to provide all kind of support.

 

Registrar Cluster University Srinagar, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Mir, in his presidential address spoke at length about the scope of Arabic language. He with reference to NEP 2020 informed the audience that CUS is mulling to start special course in Arabic and stressed for establishing an Arabic language lab in the college for the development and promotion of spoken Arabic.

 

The seminar was divided into two sessions. The speaker of the first session Dr. SallahUd din Tak presented his views on the topic “Cultural Relationship Between Indo-Arab after the independence of India”. To honor the Arabic language and the World Arabic language Day, he spoke in Arabic language during his presentation. He said that this seminar provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of Arabic language in human civilization.

 

He described the various elements that were important in the development of the cultural relationship between India and Arab such as trade relations between India & Arab, role of translation in enriching cultural literary relations, role of teachers and researchers from India and Arab in assimilating the languages of India and Arabia.

 

The speaker for the second session, Dr. Javid Ahmad Paul presented a detailed presentation on the theme of the seminar. He elaborated how Arabic language has helped in assimilating and engulfing all the civilizations like Persian civilization, Egyptian civilization, Civilization of North Africa etc. He said Islam provides a centrality to this language and it is with the rise and spread of Islam and its teachings that this language has marched towards other civilizations and thus have acted as a bridge between different civilizations across the globe.

 

Dr. Kousar Muzamil HoD Urdu, conducted the proceedings of the seminar while as Prof. Nusrat Jan HoD Arabic proposed the formal vote of thanks in Arabic language. The Technical support was provided by Dr. Tawseef Ahmad, Department of Computer Sciences while as Prof. Kasira, HoD Education, acted as the Rapporteur.
