In the series of events held in year 2021 to mark the 50th anniversary of the grand victory of Indian Army in Indo-Pak War 1971, the people of Karnah gathered here at Tithwal to celebrate the landmark day in a befitting manner. It may be remembered that on this day in 1971, 93000 Pakistan Army soldiers led by Lt Gen AAK Niazi surrendered to the Indian Army. It was the largest ever surrender after World War II and a new nation Bangladesh was born.
The current year is being celebrated as Swarnim Vijay Varsh in commemoration of the momentus military victory of India.
The function started with military dignitaries of Shakti Vijay Brigade, civil administration and prominent civilians of Karnah paying tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to achieve this grand military victory. The occasion was also utilized to lay wreaths in fond remembrance of late Gen Bipin Rawat and others who lost their lives in helicopter crash on 8 December in Coonoor recently.
It was followed by a rich musical and cultural programme wherein Pahari and Gojri songs and dances were performed by the people of Karnah, students of Army Goodwill Schools, Hajinar and Tithwal including rap performances by youth. Musical extravaganza by Indian Army, Jazz band, scintillating Bhangra and mesmerizing Dogri dances, were also part of the grand show. The air of Tithwal reverberated with patriotic as well as local music. All participants were honoured with prizes.
The musical programme was followed by a T-20 Cricket match between Army XI veterans and Karnah XI veterans which was witnessed by hundreds of people.
