Srinagar, Dec 10: 08 Dec 2021 was a black day in the history of not just the Indian Armed Forces but also of the entire nation when Gen Bipin Rawat, the 1st Chief of Defence Staff alongwith his wife and 11 bravehearts sacrificed their lives in an extremely unfortunate helicopter crash near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.
As the nation reeled in shock and struggled to come to terms with the monumental tragedy, ripples of the incident could not help but travel to the remotest part of the country like Keran. With the arrival of electricity and mobile network the news was at their doorstep within minutes. Old and young alike came to the Keran post and asked whether the news was indeed true, hoping for it to be otherwise. As a tribute to the fallen warriors, a candle light vigil was organised by the locals of Keran where few of them even spoke their heart out about the cruel fate that had befallen the senior most officer of the Indian Armed Forces.
What better tribute could there be for Gen Rawat, to be a national unifying factor even in his death, something that he strove for in his 43 years of sterling service to the nation..
Travel well, General.. Au revoir..
