Srinagar, Dec 06 (KNO): Famous tourist resort Sonmarg of Kashmir Valley is witnessing overwhelming tourists as 19,000 tourists visited the place in the last 15 days.

Sonamarg, with a literal meaning ‘the meadow of gold’ and with snow clad mountains sharing a spectacular blue sky, situated at an altitude of 2730 m, is a mesmerizing hill station in district Ganderbal of J&K.

According to data accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the number of tourists has increased since the last 15 days. From November 20 to December 5 a total 19,526 tourists visited the place. Among them 16, 390 are domestic and 3136 are local tourists.

“The flow of tourists is much better than what it was earlier. After Covid we are thankful to the tourism department for the promotion and with time it’s getting better and better,” said a local hotelier.

“I hope the Z-Morh tunnel opens soon and we can have more tourists here,” Manzoor Ahmad, another local hotelier said.

Chief Executive Officer Sonamarg Development Authority Mushtaq Ahmad Rather told KNO that several facilities have been put in place like the uninterrupted electricity, water.

“Employees of PDD, PHE, BEACON and medical staff are stationed in Sonmarg, ” he said.

“The machines of BEACON and SDA have been made functional for snow clearance,” Rather said—(KNO)
