Srinagar, Dec 01 : Poultry Farmers Union Kashmir (PFUK) on Tuesday alleged that the farmers are being exploited by the dealers/ lifters at the time of sale of birds President PFUK Tariq Elahi told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are facing a lot of problems and despite repeated requests nothing has been done on ground.
Elahi said they have now written to director Animal husbandry for help.
He said that the farmers want to purchase the best quality of material including feed but they never get the quality goods from the dealers, though they pay for the best quality.
“It is very unfortunate for the farmers that the rates are not fixed by the concerned department but by the dealers/lifters who care least for the profit of farmers,” he said.
“We have requested many times to the government that this practice must be stopped. And shed farm lifting rate should be published but we are still waiting for action in this regard,” Elahi said
“Due to the exploitation of so called dealers/lifters who do not invest a single penny in the poultry business get huge benefits. But the farmers suffer great losses and many farmers have closed their farms,” he said.
Elahi said that another big problem in the valley is the dressed chicken illegally coming from outside the valley which is totally unhygienic and harmful for human beings.
While requesting the government to ban the import of dressed chickens, Elahi said that the farmers hope that the director will help them by providing district wise mandies and outlets to the poor farmers—(KNO)
