On 22 Oct 2021, Indian Army organized a door to door distribution of re-usable sanitary pads for the villagers of Machhal and books for the students of Machhal school. Machhal is a remote sector in the Northern part of Kupwara district. Sarpanch and residents from border villages of Machhal approached Army Camp highlighting the need of menstrual hygiene for women and young girls of this village.
The aim of this drive was to address basic hygiene and sanitation needs of the women of this village. A lady medical officer of Indian Army carried out the distribution of reusable sanitary pads by visiting 250 houses of Machhal village and the ladies were centrally educated by the doctor on the importance of menstrual hygiene.
A total of ten thousand re usable sanitary pads were distributed to the village, starting a new dawn of hygienic life for the women from this remote area. In addition, this team also distributed 100 books to the children of High School, Machhal.
The villagers appreciated the efforts of Indian Army and were grateful for the contribution in making Kashmir healthy and prosperous.
