Bandipora Encounter: 1 more militant killed as fresh contact established with militants in Aragam forests, toll 3

Srinager, Jul 24 : One more militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district after fresh contact was established with militants in Aragam forest area of the district on Saturday, taking the total number of militants killed in the gunfight to three.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News observer (KNO), that earlier two militants were killed in Shokbaba forest area of Bandipora after a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in the area.

He said that two to three more militants were believed to be trapped in the encounter, however, they escaped to other side of the Shokbaba forest area and reached Aragam forest area, which was already cordoned off by security forces.

He said that as fresh contact was established with the militants in Aragam forest area, one more militant was killed. “The operation is still going on,” he said.

The official said that an army soldier of 14 RR Unit had earlier got injured in the gunfight in Shokbaba forest area, who was later evacuated to 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment.

Earlier, officials said that a Joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation after specific inputs about the presence of militants in the forest area of Shokbaba.

“As the security forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter,” they said—(KNO)
