SRINAGAR: Apni Party Women’s Wing Kashmir on Monday organized a day-long Women’s meeting at the Party head office in Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
The meeting was chaired by Apni Party Women’s Wing Provincial President Kashmir Dilshad Shaheen, along with DDC Member Gulshan, Councilor Pulwama Rukhsana, Dr. Asmat, Jameela Khan, President Transit Camp Vessu Pushpa Pandita, President Transit Camp Sheikhpora Dazy Dhar, Suraya, Hameeda along with dozen other women activists.
In a statement issued here, Dilshad Shaheen said that Apni Party has always shown its concerns in regards to women empowerment and resolving their social, political and economical problems at an earliest.
“Women folk are the key to a sustainable development for a progressive society. The role of women in the present world is that of man’s equal, partner and comrade in every field that exists. However, the disparities and discrimination are yet to be seen on various fronts that need to be addressed in order to maintain the social fabric of a society,” she said.
She added that the members raised a myriad of pressing issues faced by women across Kashmir, especially the rise in domestic violence cases and suicides in which women are always the victim.
“The society needs to recalibrate its values wherein women are given due honor and especially our daughters are saved from being incinerated on the basis of minimal dowry delivered to her in-laws. Such malpractices need to end once for all,” she asserted.
She said that in the meeting, many women members also complained about the immense inconvenience faced by the people in their respective areas relating to water scarcity, dilapidated condition of roads and electricity shut downs.
Shaheen assured them that their genuine complaints will be raised before the competent authorities and also urged them to work for the welfare of women in their areas.
