J&K Received Deficient Rainfall Last Month: MeT

No Major Rainfall Forecast For Next One Week

Srinagar, July 01 : Jammu and Kashmir received deficient rainfall in absence of any strong weather system like the western disturbance or monsoon last month, Director Meteorological Department here Sonam Lotus said on Thursday.

He said there is no forecast of any major rainfall for next one week either. However, he said a brief spell of shower with thunderstorm may occur in J&K especially towards late afternoon or evening.

“Weather remained mainly hot during June 2021.Due to absence of any strong weather system like the Western Disturbance or Monsoon, whole J&K received deficient rainfall,” the weatherman said.

He said the highest day temperature recorded in June in Jammu and Srinagar was on June 10 when winter and summer capital reported 42.7 and 34.7 degrees Celsius respectively.

“This is normal and happens every year. The highest maximum temperature recorded during last 40 years in these cities was 45.9 degree Celsius (10.6.1995) in Jammu and 36.5 degree Celsius (24.6.2005) Srinagar.”

Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded maximum temperature of 31.0 degree Celsius against 33.8 degree Celsius on previous day, a meteorological department official told GNS.

Jammu recorded maximum of 41.5 degree Celsius against 42.9 degree Celsius on June 30, he said.

Qazigund, the gate town of Kashmir, recorded 30.0 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 25.0 degrees

Celsius and Kokernag 28.0 degrees Celsius, he said.

The border town Kupwara recorded maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius. World famous skiing and tourist resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in Valley, recording maximum of 23.0Degrees Celsius, the official added. (GNS)
