AWJA Elections: Re-poll for President’s Post, General Secretary and Vice- President elected for Anantnag Working Journalists Association (AWJA)

April 6, 2021:- Anantnag Working Journalists Association today conducted general elections at Dak Banglow Anantnag.
A total of 48 members cast their vote to elect President, General Secretary and Vice President.
The elections were held under the observation of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Syed Yasir Kubravi (KAS) as Chief Observer and Tehsildar Anantnag, Abdul Wasie-ul-Deva and the District Information Officer Anantnag, Khan Zada Mohammad Usman (KAS) as Observers.
The election witnessed new twist when the results for the President’s post were declared tie between S Tariq and Khalid Muntazir, they both gained 24 votes each. The Chief Observer announced re-poll for the post on a later date to be decided by the election authority of AWJA.
The members elected Sahil Suhail as General Secretary and Fayaz Lolu as Vice President.
ACR Syed Yasir while appreciating the process of election applauded the media fraternity and said “The AWJA has played an important role in ensuring that media workers in Anantnag continue to have a voice.”
“We commend them for their ongoing commitment to press freedom, and their work fighting for the improved safety, rights and conditions of their members.”
The District Information Officer Khan Zada Mohammad Usman also appreciated the role of AWJA in conducting the Elections in free and fair manner. DIO Said that the secret ballot elections in a democratic way proved that AWJA has kept the ethics and morale of Journalism high and the new body shall work for the upliftment of Journalist and betterment of profession.
