Shopian, Feb 3: A far flung area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district is cut off from the district headquarters since January 3 when Valley witnessed heaviest snowfall. People in this village are shifting patients to hospital on cots by foot. No district administration or Municipal official visited in this village and no efforts were made to clear the roads from snow.
The village is Saymarg Gatipora where people are facing enormous problems due to accumulated snow and blockage of roads.
“We are forced to carry pregnant women and sick on cots, makeshift stretchers. We have to walk over 5 kilometers by foot in case of any emergency. It seems we are still living in Paleolithic Age,” said Nisar Ahmed, a villager to KNT adding they get no assistance from the local administration.
“Please highlight our plight, we shall feel obliged. Please tell the government that we are also human beings,” said a couple of women. (KNT)
