Degree holders of Fisheries Science stage protest, demand posts be advertised

Srinagar, Jan 8: Degree holders of Fisheries Science staged a protest here in Kashmir capital Srinagar demanding besides promotions there should be direct recruitment in the Department of Fisheries.

Scores of these degree holder students from faculty of Fisheries Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar on Friday.

They said there is a grave violation of recruitment rules in the Department of Fisheries. “As per rule, 50% of posts must be filled through promotions and rest through direct recruitment in non gazetted cadre. Unfortunately, only promotions are taking place and posts are being advertised,” the protesting degree holders told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

They said there has been no direct advertisement from past decade, except 10 posts of Fisheries Development Assistant (FDA) that were advertised in 2018.

“If over 150 promotions have taken place in the Department of Fisheries then equal number of posts should have been advertised in the interest of aspirants,” the protesters questioned.

The protesting degree holders also said that the existing syllabus for the students is superficial and should be modified. “The existing syllabus is not core fisheries but superficial and it ought to be modified,” they demanded. (KNT)
