Despite rising cases of cardiac arrests, GMC Anantnag lacks cardiac care unit

‘JKMSCL has received funds on Echo Cardiograph machinery equipment’s last year but failed to deliver the same; MS Anantnag Medical College’

Anantnag: The non-availability of cardiac care unit at Government Medical Collage, Anantnag, has raised many questions over the care of cardiac patients hailing from Anantnag district amid the surge in cardiac arrest cases across Jammu and Kashmir.
The patients who are suffering from various cardiac ailments are left on the mercy of God due to the non-serious approach of faculty of GMC, Anantnag.
In the year 2018, District hospital, Anantnag was upgraded to Government Medical College which brought a sigh of relief to the people on pretext of availing the best medical care from the institute within the district but even after two years of up-gradation the GMC, Anantnag lacks basic necessities to treat the cardiac patients.
Due to the non-availability of adequate specialists and machinery most of the cardiac patients are referred to Srinagar and during the transit many patients lost the golden time of getting revived from serious ailments.
While speaking to Kashmir Glacier the M.S GMC, Anantnag said, “This hospital isn’t a super-specialty hospital which could cover all the aspects of healthcare as super-specialty hospitals are not allotted at district levels, they are usually allotted at divisional levels.”
He said that GMC, Anantnag is not having a Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) and most of patients are referred to Srinagar because of that aspect. He also said that the under department of medicine a Cardiologist who performs TMT and other things related to cardiology.
He further added that, “JKMSCL has received funds on Echo Cardiograph machinery equipment’s last year but failed to deliver the same, may be Covid-19 is the reason for the delay.”
Shah Tariq, a patient hailing from Anantnag told Kashmir Glacier, “There is only one doctor in Cardiac section which is sheer disappointing, our hopes were shattered even after having a GMC, Anantnag. The upgradtion of the said hospital was purely meant for employing the higher number of staff but on grounds no relief is granted to the people living in the district.”
He also said that GMC Anantnag lacks the basic facilities even of a district level hospital, adding that, “one can’t imagine that a Government Medical College isn’t a having an ECHO Cardio machine.”
He further added, “You can understand the sorry state of medical affairs by the fact the there is no Cath lab, MRI or ECO cardiograph testing facility in the hospital even after completing the two years of u GMC.”
Patients while taking with Kashmir Glacier said, “There is dearth of cardiology doctors in GMC Anantnag due which patients suffer a lot as some patients came from far flung areas but most of them are recommended to Srinagar for specialized treatment.”
Another patient while talking to Kashmir Glacier, “Due to lack of facilities we are forced to opt for private clinics in order to get cardiology tests done by paying hefty sum. What is the fun of having a GMC at district level when these minuscule tests aren’t done?”
