On International World Disability Day, specially- abled protest for their rights

 

 

Srinagar, Dec 3: On the occasion of World Disability Day, Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) members held a protest at Press Enclave Srinagar against the what they said ‘callous attitude’ of the government in addressing the problems of people with disabilities.

The protesters who assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar demanded the implementation of Disability Act-2016.
Abdul Rashid Bhat President Jammu & Kashmir Handicapped Association(JKHA) while speaking to KNT said,” every day new laws are made for the physically challenged people all over the world and work is done for their welfare but in Jammu Kashmir opposite happens that adds to their woes.”

“We demand that our rights be upheld and the schemes for handicapped people be implemented,” he said.
Bhat threatened that the Association would launch indefinite Hunger Strike from 25th January 2021 if government fails to implement the schemes meant for them.

“Despite writing several times to LG Manoj Sinha, seeking a meeting, there was no response, although many delegations meet him. Officering us Scoties or tricycles won’t help, there are qualified youth among us who are trained from ITI, we want Jobs for unemployed physically challenged persons and asking for it is our right,” said Abdul Rashid Bhat.

Bhat further said,” It is Just on this International World Disability Day Government remembers them and organize events and for the rest of the year they exist nowhere for them. (KNT)
