Liyakat Ali Khan Turns Out to be a rescuer at Margan Top

Anantnag: Liyakat Ali Khan hails from Remote Village of Gawran in Kokernag area in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district turns out be a rescuer of Margan Top. Margan Top is also known as Valley of death. Liyaqat is running a small Shop at the Foot of Nawkan area in Margan Top which falls in Kishtwar district. The Margan Top which lies at an altitude of 14,000 ft. is one of the best tourist’s destination in the area but it lacks the very basic facilities even for purchasing daily items, there is only one store in entire Nawkan which is 40 kms away from Kokernag in Anantnag. The Margan Top remains open for six months from June- November (spring to autumn) and closed for rest of months (November -May) due to heavy snowfall. Liyakat’s store is located at Margan Top which falls on Wardan – Gawran road. Tourists who travel by this road purchases necessary items from his shop. In this valley there no road connectivity and there are unexceptional weather change which faces many problems.

Liyakat Khan has saved many lives from last many years by risking his own life especially in rainy and snowy seasons. It is a far flung area which lacks connectivity but that doesn’t discourage Liyakat in helping out the people coming for a visit. As he has done a commendable job by helping the people who were caught in tough times due to the nature’s fury. In an exclusive interaction with Kashmir Glacier’s special correspondent, Liyakat said, “I have saved many people who were trapped in snow in this area and I am very proud of that. In last year I have saved one family which was trapped in snow avalanche.”

He said that there is only a single road for reaching Wardan which is famous tourist destination and hundreds of tourists visit Wardan through this road. He further added, “Many timed I saved tourists particularly during the rainy season’s. The Valley usually experiences harsh weather inclement throughout the year which sometimes causes threat for tourists,” He stressed that, “Government should do proper arrangements in this area like road another connectivity, deployment of rescue workers during the harsh weather predictions, etc. so that people living in area get some respite and relief,” adding, I always try my level best to reach and help the needy in all possible way but Government should also come forward in building the proper infrastructure here so that people could get a sigh of relief from all of their sufferings.(Kashmir Glacier)
