Ceasefire Violation: Army officer killed in cross-LoC firing in J&K’s Rajouri

‘Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was targeted from across the LoC’

Srinagar: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Indian army was killed after Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
The slain officer was identified as JCO Rajesh Kumar posted in the Keri area of the Rajouri sector, the Army said in a statement.
An official said the officer of the rank of JCO resident of Punjab, was hit by sniper fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Keri Sector of Rajouri during the intervening night of September 1-2.
The ceasefire violation took place when Pakistani resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing of small arms in Rajouri district’s Nowshera sector.
The Pakistani troops targeted the forward posts in Kalsiyan, Bhawani, Khanger, areas of Nowshera, injuring the JCO who was immediately rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
This is the second such casualty in the past four days in Rajouri. Pakistan’s sniper fire from across the LoC killed a JCO in the Nowshera Sector on August 30.
The sources said, Pakistan also suffered casualties in the retaliatory action but the exact details weren’t ascertained.
