Gone are the days when restrictions were imposed across the Valley to prevent the COVID-19, a deadly virus from spreading as the government has eased the curbs in Jammu and Kashmir. Nonetheless, the toll of positive cases of COVID-19 has been growing in pace. There is no let up in cases, but there is no difference in the cases during the ongoing relaxation or the lockdown period as the cases continued to mount across Jammu and Kashmir even as the lockdown remained in place. Some districts have yet again taken a lead to re-impose the restrictions to prevent the cases, but one fails to understand how the fresh lockdown will help in reducing the number of cases as it couldn’t help in the past as well. It needs to be understood that there is no vaccine available for the virus at present although efforts are on in tgis regard. At this juncture, the re-imposition of lockdown will yet again be a futile exercise as the cases would continue to be reported as happened during the previous lockdown period. Instead, the government should make people aware of the magnitude of the disease so that the people will follow the health guidelines in spirit. The government should come up with a strict measure in this regard and ensure that anyone found disobeying the guidelines is dealt with strictly.
