KMC fails to repair defunct clocks and night lights

Kulgam: Historical clock tower of District kulgam ‘Ghanta-Ghar’ has become coop for hundreds of birds, as the kulgam Municipal Corporation (KMC) has failed to repair defunct clocks and lights of the tower from last six years.
According to locals, Clock tower was built in 2009 by Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami, he was representing the Kulgam constituency in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Situated in the heart of Kulgam city. Over the years, it has become a symbol of kulgam city, and a centre for political, business and marketing activities.
Since the Central Government downgraded Jammu Kashmir state into two union territories, authorities have not paid any heed towards the clock tower. This has left the tower in a dilapilated condition.
The shopkeepers near Clock Tower told that the tower is in dilapidated conditions from last 6 years. “The Clocks and night Lights of the Tower has stopped functioning long back,” they said.
They also blamed the Government for bringing down the beauty of the Clock Tower because concerned department has not paid attention towards its development.
A local medical shopkeeper, Javaid Ahmad Bhat, told Kashmir Glacier that administration did not pay any sort of attention towards the Tower, even though for the last six years the Clock Tower is with 4 clocks from 4 directions, but didn’t show correct time.
Kulgam Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Manzoor Ahmad, speaking to Kashmir Glacier assured that he will look into the matter and make sure that clocks and lights will be installed on the tower within a week.
