After spending couple of years in one of the most alluringdistrict of the valley, known for itsravishing, sooty, dense forests (Kupwara), It remble out to see the dark postern of our future. Behind a vibrantcolourfulveil of the nature, a dark venintoxoidisslaughtering our future leisurely. To build up a potent community, a state or a nation, the executivepotential always depends upon the mental plight of its youth and when you cannot eliminate the social jeopardy that can destroy the mental cultivation of your youth, you cannot foresee a bright future. Being exposed to a conversant trafficking due to International border, Kupwara has been a facile route for drug lords from past few years. Since the state of Punjab has taken stern measures across their borders In order to knock out the pathos is of drugs, a spell of pathos is that has been a biting burden from decades to pull out its bloom from such menace. The bootleg has find an alternate path to sneak inthrough a cloud of timber.
My perspicacity of such a story started with a morning, whenI got nudged out of sleep from crackled noise at my door, knock, as I got up rubbing my eyes, I opened the door to see a guy from the neighbourside. ‘He used to visit one of the guys who was quitefriendly to me, livingIn the same building that I have been living from last two years on rental basis’, as I was not In a frame of mind to open the door, but he was pushing the door In plight to get In. FinallyI opened the door to let himIn, as I was blurring to know “what he wants?”, I was about to ask, he said “my father Is roamingoutside and I need to smoke, Iwill leave as soon as IwillfinishIn a real brisk, you may go back to sleep as Idon’t want to disturb you”. BelievinghismannerismI went back to sleep, In a partial fragmentary sleep, I sensed a weird smell, an unusual oddball, I got up with a rush, a flash of shockingview of the guy with a foil paper, a rolled out 10 rupee note In-betweenhislips and a lighterblazing the foil from the beneath. Out of jolt, I was unable to find a reaction, in a quickreceptivity, Iarticulated, ‘hey!WhatIs this? What are you doing?’hisreaction was nothing, he was least bothered about me, he was most focused to respire all the smoke coming out of foil. Dragginghis thumb back and fourth on the foil, he said “this is chitta(heroin)”, since I had never seen anyone carrying out such a consumption, It was a bit spooky. I was aware of the fact of fatality from such substances, but experiencingright next to your bed was a total terror. The Illustration of the guy was a fineImage, as I had talked to him before on a couple of occasions, he was quite calm and decent. So I was sure to an extent that he won’t steam up, ifIwillinstructhim to leave my room instantly. But curiositygripped me and I became keen to know hisInside. So Iinquirehim, why is he doing that?AsI asked, ‘do you know this can killyou’?With apathy he replied “Idon’t know about death, but Ican’tlivewithoutthis, you know how much a single shot of this costs me? 1500Rs”. As I was hearkening, I could have seen his eyes goingrigid and his body dazzlingin an unusual way. ‘Why are you shattering your life, what would you get out of doingthis?’ , looking down consistentlywithhis comatose eyes “If I stop takingIt, Iwon’t feel good at all, Iwill get sick, body aches, the Toddis worse than poisoning yourself”, Todd?? What Is that? “yes, when I don’t drug myself at timesI feel likeI am killing myself, we call It Todd Hindi), Itried to pull out a number of times, but the burden of need Is unbearable, now I’mlooking forward to my marriage , I have couples of months remaining, may be after that Iwill stop takingIt”. Withthis note he left my room. Soon after thisIncidentI was restless, I was craving to know what sort of dynamismdrives such a disastrous stroke in our society. I came to know about a lot of Incidents where as young as 16 died of overdosing. I came to know about the rate at which the drug isbeing consumed. Adjoining, I met one more guy from a student’s doorway, I came to know about a murk frontal of this whole story, when he told me he had hisfirstjoint of Garda cigarette (Garda a genre of Hashish found in the wild forests of Kupwara) with a friend and a teacher on the very first day of his college.

In a report published by Aljazeera last year
More than 600 people have been treated for addiction. Most patients were aged between 15 and 30, and 80 percent were heroin users. This was a data given out by a single health centre. “We have receivedpatients as young as eight years old in our centre,” said Arshad Hussain, a professor of mental health and neurosciences from Kashmir, who works In Shri Maharaja HariSingh. As a society we have always been admonishing others in every case, but have we ever pledged a culpability to stand againstsocial menaces. We are busy inscoring a heap of bank balance, a leisurelife style, but have we every visualized how our kids are going to subsistin such a socialperil. We may or may not have Influentialtenacity to fightagainst a major-league, as we are well aware of the fact about the power of Impellent forces that are drivingthis plague, but we can exercise a policy of education about the hazards from very Individual level. How often we talk to our kids about theirhitches, intheir can of worms how much timewe allocate to help them eliminatetheir mess. How much do we Investigate to know what sort of clique are they friendlywith, their sudden reversal in mood and behaviour. It is the scrupulous frame to act or the panorama of future will be none less than a massacre.
