Kulgam: A five year old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Locals told news agency KNT that a leopard pounced upon a child and badly wounded him. The leopard dragged the child but the locals chased it away and shifted the body immediately to Primary Health Centre Manzgam where from doctors referred him to Sub-District Hospital Damhal Hanjipora.
The boy succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The incident occurred in Manzgam village of Kulgam district and the victim has been identified as Umar Farooq Baba, a resident of Manzgam.
Locals after the incident staged a protest against Wild Life Department accusing it of negligence. “We had repeatedly informed the department about the movement of leopards in the area, but nobody took it seriously and today we saw the result,” Jahangir Ahmed, a local said adding the incident has created panic in the area.
