A Scene Of Village Well

A Scene Of Village Well

A village well is a meeting place of almost all the people of the village . Unlike cities there are no water tab in the houses of villagers . No person can live without water because it is essential for life . Villagers have to get water from the well of their village from morning till evening . There is no social club in the village. The scene of woman drawing water from the well is the sight to see. They come to the well in batches with pitchers on their heads. At that time they come singing in chorus . They place their pichers in the line . if some woman tries to drawn water out of turn other woman check her . At time there is exchange in hot words and this leads to blows. But the scene become calm and quiet. When they see an elderly man approaching the well. Everybody get her chance after some time. Then she places her pitchers on her head and returns to her house . Some woman clean their utensils and wash their clothes at the well. This is not a healthy practice. Some children, young men and a elderly people take their bath at the well. They draw out water and then pour it on their bodies. Some of the elderly people bring their grand children to give them a bath . After their bath the old people move to a corner to say their prayers ; young men oil their hairs after their bath, and some of them are seen massaging their bodies and taking exercise before taking bath. There is a water pond near the well. Many villagers bring their cattle to make them drink water from it . Some times a vessel falls into the well and many people are seen looking into it. They leave no stone turned to get the vessel out.
It is a nice sight to see water carrier drawing water . They are very quick in their movements and draw water in the twinkling of an eye. They are seen drawing the ropes over the pulley of the well and the pulley produces a fine music for the ears . When a water carrier fill his pots it produces a gurgling sound. Then he moves towards the village with his tins, buckets and leather bags full of water. In short , the scene at a village well is such as I love to see.
