Altaf Bukhari elected as President

Members take oath, pass interim constitution
SRINAGAR: Former finance minister of Jammu and Kashmir Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari was on Saturday unanimously elected as President by the members of his party scheduled to be launched on Sunday afternoon.
Sources told Kashmir Despatch, that his name for the post of president was proposed by former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir and seconded by former legislator and chief secretary Vijay Bakaya and other former legislators.
Sources told Kashmir Despatch, that the meeting over dinner took place at the residence of Mr. Bukhari at Sheikhbagh Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Saturday evening.
All the participants in the meeting later unanimously reposed their support and elected Mr Bukhari as their president. The formal launch of the party–tipped to be named as Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, will be held on Sunday afternoon.
Sources told Kashmir Despatch that the political leaders who participated in the meeting included Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Usman Majeed, Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Abdul Majeed Padder, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Javed Beig, Rafi Mir, Zaffar Manhas, Abdul Rahim Rather, Raja Manzoor, Kamal Arora, Yawar Mir, Noor Mohammed Sheikh, Javed Mirchal, Shoaib Lone, Choudhary Qamar, Syed Asghar Ali, Faqeer Mohammad, Muntazir Mohouddin, G M Bhawan, Hilal ahmad Shah, Dr Neilangan Arora, Vikram Malhotra, Mudasir Amin, Mohammad Ashraf Dar, Dr Samiullah, Kavel Singh, Jagmohan Singh Raina, Manjeet Singh, Irfan Naqeeb, Farooq Andrabi and many other prominent leaders from across Jammu and Kashmir.
Almost all leaders addressed the meeting and deliberated on the prevailing socio-economic and political situation especially that has emerged after abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
The leaders from Jammu region expressed serious concern over the gulf that according to them has been deliberately created between the communities and regions of erstwhile State.
The meeting dispelled the notion that this party has a tacit support of some national political parties and vowed to raise the issues that concern the people of Jammu and Kashmir at all forums and power corridors in the country.
Sources said that the participants expressed their opinions and held all political parties including Congress and BJP equally responsible for the mess in Jammu and Kashmir.
Many participants from Jammu said that they will ensure that the people of Jammu region join hands with the people of Kashmir region to fight for their rights in future.
