‘The prolonged internet gag has taken toll on valley based Medi labs’

Srinagar, Dec 29: The prolonged internet gag continues to cast dark shadow not only on various medical laboratories but for the ailing patients as well who are undertaking long journey to get their tests done.

The ongoing internet clampdown which crosses over 140 days in the aftermath of revocation of semi-autonomous status and the bifurcation of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UT’s) (Jammu—Kashmir and Ladakh).

The valley based Medi Labs has suspended to undertake various tests which highly depends on working internet facility which continues to remain barred over 140 days in Kashmir.

The suspension of internet services in valley has left no one untouched as the decision has affected almost all walks of life.

Abdul Rahman Mir, a lab owner based in Srinagar said, “Due to the ongoing internet gag we pursue only those tests which are done locally.”

He said that the prolonged internet clampdown has added woes to our business right after the uncertainty in the backdrop of rollback of abrogation of Article 370. He further added, “For most of the tests we rely on the internet service for sending and receiving of sample reports from New Delhi.”

Farooq Ahmad Wagay, a patient based in Srinagar, “I have been looking for various labs in Srinagar to get my tests done from the last two months but I am helpless.”

He said that most of the patients are going outside Jammu and Kashmir just to get the tests done. He further added, “I have no other option without taking a risk to undertake a journey to New Delhi for my tests.”
