‘Tourism still worst hit, by the gag as authorities remain tightlipped over the restoration of services’

Srinagar, Dec 19: The tourism in Kashmir remains on crutches due to the ongoing internet gag in valley. The tourism sector has been badly hit this year in the backdrop of rollback of semi-autonomous status and bifurcation of erstwhile state into two Union Territories (Jammu—Kashmir and Ladakh).

As the internet gag has left no one untouched in valley as the ongoing gag has affected badly several sectors in valley which includes Tourism sector which already remain on crutches.

The internet service remains the primary need of every single visitor of Kashmir who opts for a leisure trip. As most of the visitors nowadays avoid to visit Kashmir due to the prevailing restrictions of internet services.

Kashmir tourism has witnessed one of the worst kind of business in the year 2019 in the aftermath of abrogation of special status and bifurcation of former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (Jammu—Kashmir and Ladakh).

Maarifan Gul, a senior sales manager at Hotel Gul, “The ongoing internet gag has put our business on stake as the entire tourism industry primarily depends on the internet service.”

He said that the revocation of tourism advisory and winter carnival does not prove fruitful yet for the beleaguered tourism industry. He further added, “We have been consistently trying to attract the visitors for Kashmir visit but our endeavor’s fail to get our business back.”

Trishi Gupta, a traveler from Kolkata, said “We heard a lot of negativity about Kashmir and it was our personal decision to visit Kashmir.”

She said that visiting Kashmir was always a dream but the ongoing internet gag has spoiled the fun. She further added, “In absence of internet services we are unable explore new places by using Google Maps which is really unfortunate for us.”

It’s pertinent to mention that the internet services remain suspended for over 4 months and the same has taken toll on all business sectors. The decision on suspension of internet services in Kashmir was taken by the Government of India in order to prevent any “law and order” situation in the backdrop of roll back of semi-autonomous status of former state of Jammu and Kashmir.
