‘Worshippers high in spirits and emotions over the move after a long haul’

Srinagar, Dec 19: The reopening of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar on Wednesday has brought rejoice and happiness among the worshippers across Kashmir, who were desperately waited for the moment of reopening the historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar.

The prayers at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar was suspended on Aug, 05, 2019 in the aftermath of abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (Jammu—Kashmir and Ladakh).

On Wednesday, the worshippers across Kashmir visited the mosque early morning in order to participate in the ablution of the mosque which remained under closure from the last four months. As the decision for the closure of mosque was taken by the administration as precautionary measure to avoid any law and order situation in the area.

Arif Ahmad, worshipper at Jamia Masjid, told KG, “I don’t have words to express my sentiments over the opening of this mosque after such a long time.”

He said that every time he passes through the compound of the mosque he felt bad over the closure of the mosque. He further added that, “With the opening of this mosque let’s hope peace will now prevail in Kashmir and everything will get back to normal from now.”

Another worshipper Khurshid Ahmad said, “This is the day we all were waiting for as the closure of this mosque has devastated us spiritually and now with reopening of this mosque brought a lot of cheers and happiness to us.” He said that it’s really unfortunate to witness the closure of worshipping places but what one can do over the situation. He further added that, “I just wish from now that this mosque will remain open for ever no matter what as we are spiritually and emotionally attached to this place.”
