Amid internet gag, tax consultant agencies estimate losses worth Crores

‘The ongoing internet clampdown has failed us miserably to file the returns of our associated clients’

Srinagar, Dec 12: The tax consultants based in Srinagar has estimated a loss tune up-to crores due to the non-availability of internet services in Kashmir. As most of the agencies awaits the governments nod for restoring the much needed internet services in valley.

As the authorities remain tightlipped over the restoration of internet services in Kashmir even on the fourth consecutive month since Aug 5 when the Parliament stripped the semi-autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two Union Territories Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

The income tax file returns has now became the new nightmare for the business fraternity in Kashmir who are already suffered huge losses due to unprecedented clampdown in valley.

The prevailing uncertainty in Kashmir has forced many tax consultants to visit Delhi in order to get the Income Tax returns (ITR) filed for few of their clients based in Kashmir.

As most of the business organizations has missed the deadline for filing their returns which seems like an impossible job in Kashmir at the present scenario.

Mued Khan, a tax consultant based in Srinagar said, “I have been receiving many calls from my clients to get them out of this tormenting situation but I too feel helpless for them.”

He said that he has succeeded in filing the returns of merely five percent of his clients at present. He further added, “I have faced great hardships in the past months due to the suspension of internet services which has already casted a deep shadow on our business prospectus”

Sheikh Akhter, a businessman based in Srinagar said, “Last month I have received a notice against filing of my tax returns and now I am moving from pillar to post to get it done.”

He said that now he is planning to visit New Delhi to file the Income Tax Return (ITR) at earliest in order to avoid penalty. He further added that, “The government is well aware about our fate in Kashmir but it seems that they are least bothered about us.”
