Srinagar: At least seven people have been arrested during nocturnal raids by Jammu and Kashmir police in central Kashmir’s Naroo village of Budgam district.
According to the villagers five among the arrested are minors, “Without any reason they (police) barged into our homes at around 2 am, and picked children for no crime of theirs,” a villager told.
Adding that they were worried about the safety of their children, “Father of one of the detained has a kidney failure and he has no one to look after.” A villager wishing not to be named fearing reprisal said.
Those who have been detained have been identified as Ishtiyaq dar age 16, Faheem Nabi age 15, Sahil Bhat 13, Zubair bashir age 15, Mudasir yousuf age 14, Muzafar age 25, Irfan lone 21, all residents of Naroo area in Budgam.
Meanwhile, station house officer Budgam Mohammad Rafi Shah told that the boys were detained for the smooth run of elections, ” It is a preventive action to ensure smooth election. They will all be treated legally, whether minor or not.” He said.
